DeKalb schools can vie for up to $1,000 in prizes in the DeKalb County Sanitation’s Recycle-Bowl taking place Oct. 21 to Nov. 15.
Recycle-Bowl, a fun and friendly competition among elementary, middle and high schools, seeks to emphasize and invigorate recycling efforts and teach kids about recycling.
It is affiliated with America Recycles Day and Keep America Beautiful.
Schools can register online at www
.recycle-bowl.org through Oct. 15.
Laurene Hamilton, DeKalb Recycling Outreach director, said recycling creates jobs and stimulates Georgia’s economy.
“Recycling is the easiest and most effective thing that anyone can do to protect natural resources, conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions,” Hamilton said.
Last year, DeKalb’s Kingsley Elementary School earned bragging rights as a contest winner for the state of Georgia.
Public, private and charter schools are eligible for the competition.
Schools are asked to collect and recycle plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and mixed paper items. Participating schools are eligible for prizes ranging from free recycling bins to monetary awards of up to $1,000. Winners will be announced in February.
