District to hold hearings on charter system
Jennifer Ffrench-Parker | 8/15/2014, 6 a.m.
The DeKalb School District, which is seeking to become the largest charter system in the state, is holding a series of public hearings for stakeholders beginning Aug. 26.
The district must submit a petition to the Georgia Department of Education seeking charter system status, and public input in this petition is being sought.
Five community engagement sessions have been scheduled. Residents including parents and teachers can make comments.
Stakeholders can review information from the Georgia Department of Education about charter systems and some of the petitions from other school systems around the state that are already operating as a charter district.
