Elena Parent lands Ga. WIN nod for Senate 42 seat

Elena Parent, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the state Senate District 42 seat, won a nod from Georgia WIN List.

The political action committee that seeks to put more Democratic women in state offices endorsed Parent in the race against attorney Kyle Williams.

The winner of the May 20 primary will face Republican Gregory E. “Greg” Williams, who is running unopposed for his party’s nomination.

Senate District 42, which covers portions of DeKalb County including Brookhaven, Chamblee and Decatur, is currently held by Jason Carter, who is unopposed for the Democratic nomination for governor.

Parent, a former state representative, also won WIN’s endorsement in 2010 when she was elected to House District 81, unseating an incumbent Republican.

She left the General Assembly in 2012 after her seat was targeted by Republicans during redistricting and was combined with the district of fellow Democrat Scott Holcomb.

Parent decided not to run against Holcomb and stepped down to become the executive director of Georgia Watch, a consumer advocacy organization.
