Akeelah and the Bee screening at the library

The 2006 family-friendly film “Akeelah and the Bee” starring Keke Palmer will be screened on Feb. 25 at the Hairston Crossing Library.

Akeelah tells the story of 11-year-old Akeelah Anderson who lives in South Los Angeles and her struggles to be win the National Spelling Bee. Despite many obstacles, she makes her way to the championship with coaching help from an English professor.

The cast includes Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett and is directed by Doug Atchison.

Show time is 2 p.m. and there is space for the first 50 participants.

Registration is not required.

Groups of five or more should call the branch for an appointment.

Funding for the screening is provided by the Friends of Hairston Crossing Library.
