March 20 deadline to sign up for free notary training

3/17/2017, 6 a.m.

Residents interested in becoming a notary public can attend free training sessions on March 24 at Maloof Auditorium in Decatur.

To reserve a seat, contact Twinette Jones at tajones@dekalbcountyga.gov or 404-371-2250 by March 20.

Clerk of DeKalb Superior Court Debra DeBerry and the Georgia Superior Court Clerks’ Cooperative Authority are hosts for the two sessions that take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The training workshop is open to the public and highly recommended for anyone who is a notary public in the state of Georgia or would like to become one.

Individuals commissioned as a notary public can witness or attest signature or execution of deeds and other written instruments and witness affidavits upon oath or affirmation, among other duties.

A notary public should perform his or her duties to the utmost extent of the law – failure to do so could result in costly lawsuits and penalties as a notary is liable for his or her actions.

The auditorium is at 1300 Commerce Drive. For more information, visit www.dksuperiorclerk.com.
