Royce Ennett has been elected to a seat on the Benedict College board of trustees.

Ennett attended Bob Mathis Elementary and Chapel Hill Middle schools in Decatur and is a 2009 graduate of the Lovett School in Atlanta.

As a trustee at Benedict, which is located in Columbia, S.C., Ennett will help create and control policies that operate the school’s finances, faculty and staff, campus buildings and more.

The 21-year-old Decatur native said serving on the 30-member board of the historically black college will be an education for him. He is the only student trustee and represents the 3,000-plus student body.

“You learn how the school runs and see how it operates,” said Ennett, who is a senior majoring in elementary education.

Ennett had to apply and be interviewed by Benedict’s president, Dr. David Holmes Swinton, and members of the board before his selection for the one-year term.

He said he wants to make his time on the board count.

“I want to effect change on the school that won’t only last for one year but for students to come,” he said.

Ennett is also president of the Gamma Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and a three-year member of the School of Honors.
